Palm Desert is Edison territory, on NEM 3.0 and time-of-use rates peaking 4 to 9 p.m. Unlike Palm Springs, most Palm Desert homes did not join a community choice program, so the bill is a straight Edison bill. Export credits are low; stored power for the evening is where the savings are.

The heat, and what it does to the size of the system
Palm Desert summers match Palm Springs: months over 100°F, afternoons at 110°F and above. Air conditioning runs constantly and bills climb past $500 in ordinary homes. Panels derate in that heat, so we size the array larger than the same usage would need in the Inland Empire, and larger homes take two Powerwalls.
Roofs in Palm Desert
Palm Desert is mostly tile on homes built from the 1970s on, with flat-roofed mid-century homes in the older south-side neighborhoods and along the country club fairways. Tile gets lifted and reset around each mount. Flat roofs get tilt racks engineered for wind. Many country club homes have shared or association-maintained roofs, and we work out who signs off before we start.
Permits and turning it on
Permits go through the City of Palm Desert Building and Safety, and homes in Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage, and La Quinta go through those cities. The installation partner handles the drawings, the inspection, and the Edison interconnection.
Associations. Almost every Palm Desert neighborhood has an association, and the country clubs have architectural committees that meet on a schedule. We prepare the submission with roof plans and low-profile equipment placement. California’s Solar Rights Act limits what they can refuse.

Can I get solar in a Palm Desert country club community?
In most cases, yes. The architectural committee reviews placement and appearance, and California law limits what it can refuse. Shared-roof condos are the exception and depend on the association’s rules. We find out before we quote.
I’m only here in winter. Does solar still make sense?
Often yes, because the summer bill for an empty house with the AC holding temperature is still large, and the system produces the most in the months you’re away. We size from a full year of usage and show you the estimate.
