The heat, and what it does to the size of the system
San Bernardino sits against the mountains and runs as hot as Fontana, with summer highs over 100°F and Santa Ana winds in the fall. Air conditioning drives the bill from June through September. We size from twelve months of usage so summer is covered without overbuilding for winter.
Roofs in San Bernardino
The city has everything from 1920s bungalows near downtown to 2000s tile tracts in Verdemont and University Heights. Older homes in the Arrowhead, Del Rosa, and Muscoy areas are mostly composition shingle, and a fair number need a roof before panels. Newer tracts north of the 210 are concrete tile, which the installing crews lift and reset around each mount.
Permits and turning it on
Permits go through the City of San Bernardino Community Development, Building and Safety division. Unincorporated pockets like Muscoy permit through San Bernardino County instead. The installation partner handles both and files the Edison interconnection.

Choosing a solar company in San Bernardino

- The licence. Whoever does the installation must hold a California contractor’s licence. Look the number up on the CSLB licence check. - Who owns the system. On a $0-down agreement, it isn’t you. Get the owner’s name in writing.
- Year one and year twenty on the same page. If the price per kilowatt-hour rises each year, you should see what it is at the end, not just the start.
- The warranty, in writing, from the company that gives it. Parts, workmanship, roof penetrations, and production, with the term for each.
- Anyone who says “free solar,” walk away. You still pay for power, and you still have an Edison bill.
